Take a Hike! Adventures on the Bayou
We recently visited two fantastic trails that explore the natural beauty of Louisiana. It’s always nice to get out and be one with nature. Check out our adventures on the bayou…first stop, the Woodlands Conservancy in Belle Chasse, LA:
About Woodlands Conservancy
The Woodlands Conservancy works to preserve and protect its delicate land that is home to thousands of species. With the continuing loss of our wetlands in combination with relative sea level rise, the Woodlands Conservancy lands are expected to be one of the largest forested land masses between open water and the city of New Orleans within the next 35-50 years.
We took a walk on the Bottomlands Trail, a set of parallel trails (one hiking and one equestrian) 6 miles long. We had a wonderful time soaking up all the beautiful sights and sounds of the swamp land.
Second Stop: Bayou Sauvage
Located just northeast of New Orleans, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is a marsh and wetland habitat rich in wildlife and recreation opportunities. Bayou Sauvage is a popular place to enjoy fishing, hiking, paddling, bird watching, nature photography, youth waterfowl hunting, self-guided tours, and interpretive and educational programs.
