Off the Beaten Path: Senoia, Georgia, Land of “The Walking Dead”
On our way back to New Orleans from the baby shower in my hometown, Lon and I made a detour to see the town where the hit AMC show “The Walking Dead” is filmed. If you are familiar with the show, then you know it’s set in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and the back drop of just about every episode features old ghost towns filled with zombies preying on those still living. The majority of the show is filmed in a small town in Georgia called Senoia. It’s about 45 minutes south of Atlanta and a 20-minute drive east off of Interstate 85. To our surprise, the town is precious!
It was overcast the day we ventured to Senoia, but other than the tourist groups and props set up around the town (including a giant metal wall surrounding a nice quiet subdivision), you’d never know Senoia is ground zero of a zombie apocalypse! In fact, I recommend anyone, Walking Dead fan or not, to stop by and visit this quaint Southern town.
The area includes a couple restaurants, a coffee shop, and several cute shops line the streets. We were there on a Sunday and, like most small Southern towns, most of the businesses were closed. But we still captured a few cute pics from our journey to the land of The Walking Dead.
Did any of the places look familiar to you? Comment below if you have any questions or pictures from your adventure to Senoia you would like to share!
