San Francisco Plantation House: A Southern Show Stopper
/
Welcome to the most opulent plantation house in the South and perhaps the entire United States! The San Francisco Plantation, located in Garyville, Louisiana, stands out as a colorful antebellum beauty. The home’s vibrant exterior continues inside and is a must see if you are ever in the area.
Enjoy this Southern Chick Lookbook of the San Francisco Plantation House, beginning with the exterior:
Built in 1856, San Francisco Plantation house is a galleried house of the Creole open suite style with ornant details on the exterior and interior of the home.
Bright and lovely front porch. The design of the home is said to be inspired by a River Steamboat.
Soaking up all the details. There are so many!
Iron railing detail. *Notice how close the home is to the road? According to the website, as a result of the Great Flood of 1927, the Army Corps of Engineers began building the Mississippi River levee system and completed the project in 1932. The new levee unfortunately sacrificed the luscious front yard and gardens.
An old photo of the home shows the beautiful front garden it once had before the levees were built. Notice the fountain in this picture before you look at the next photo- Photo cred: San Francisco Plantation
You can see the fountain from the previous picture has been moved to the side of the house. And check out those vibrant colors!
The San Francisco Plantation is a National Historic Landmark and is open daily for plantation tours.
I love the bright colors of this home.
Walking into the home, you get a sense that the owners loved the finer things in life. Much like the outside, the interior of the home is just as bold, with brightly patterned carpet in almost every room, hand painted designs on doors and ceilings throughout and fine crafted huge pieces of furniture found around every corner.
The entry off the front porch. The owners spared no expense when it came to decorating this home.
The formal living room. I spy an 8.5 month pregnant Southern Chick in the mirror đŸ™‚
The master bedroom. The matress is stuffed with Spanish Moss…not very comfortable I’d imagine!
The owners, Valsin Marmillion and Louise von Seybold,
The children, Corinne, Emma, and Amelie Marmillion
Ordant curtains like these found in the Gentleman’s Parlor are throughout the home.
Hanging out inside the gentlemen’s parlor
Another bedroom in the home. Notice the hand-painted door panels
The dining room is found in the basement of the home
A look at the lenght of the full basement.
There are many more rooms to explore in the home, these are just a sampling of what to see. The plantation is open for tours daily, so make sure to check it out!
